Attempting to blog more regularly

So, I've been thinking about trying to blog daily ... mostly as a result of starting to read blogs that do update daily, and liking them a whole lot. Although this comes with its problems ... given that I'm committed to making sure that I can't be tracked down by people who read this blog but otherwise don't know me, I'm loathe to put up details about what I'm doing every day, where I've been etc - so I'm not sure how it will go. But we'll see.

So, for today's update ... blogs I have been reading.
http://www.alreadypretty.com/ - a blog about style and dressing. I really like Sal's tone and idiolect ... I don't always agree with her style advice 100%, but she's a pretty cool lady and is really very nice.

http://www.academichic.com/ - I'm not really sure why I keep reading about the girls at academichic, as I usually disagree with their outfit choices - although it has made me think about how regional differences affect the ways we see fashion. I like their packing tips, though, and I like the fact that they discuss colour techniques and so on - even if I often disagree with the outfits they end up with! But some of their stuff is beautiful.

http://magpiesparkles.blogspot.com/ - magpie sparkles is mostly a makeup blog. I am a fan of makeup blogs / makeup videos on youtube, because I think that advice on makeup is ideally done with lots of photos and videos - and now with the wonder of the internet, we have that! It's made me realise that I can wear 4 or 5 eyeshadow colours together and make it look good and subtle and neat, rather than just sticking with one block of colour.

Go check these 3 out ... I check them most days, they update most days, and they provide some rather nice procrastination from whatever you ought to be doing.

Bits and bobs

Things I have been doing recently:

1) Getting out of my room to work. This has - so far - been really helping my productivity; I find it much easier to focus when I put myself in a situation where I basically have nothing to do but work for a few hours. Also, going away means that if I've got lots of dirty dishes or something in my room, they don't nag at me - okay, they're there when I get back, but I'm not half-thinking "Oh, I should clean up" the whole time I'm working.

2) Starting the questions at the beginning and finishing at the end. I used to try and work out what the best questions to start with would be, and then constantly be thinking "Okay, so that one worked/didn't work - what should I try next? What can I handle?". Working from the beginning to the end is much more systematic and means I can ignore all of the little voices saying I've done well/badly/too much/too little/etc and just get on with it. Because just getting on with it is the only way to get it done, when it comes down to it.

3) Working with my MP3 player on. It's sometimes a bit distracting, but usually it's less distracting than overhearing lots of other people's conversations. It's nice to have the option, anyway, and just having the headphones in helps to quiet things down a little.

4) Watching Season 2 of the Gilmore girls - thanks Alicia! Fab shows ... good for unwinding. And just generally happy-making and sweet.

5) Watching Gok's Fashion Fix on Channel4oD - hurrah! I really, really like this program - I liked the old version, where it was pretty much just about making designer looks vs high street looks, but this one is much better, in my opinion.
The way he takes somebody who needs a new wardrobe (and it's someone who themselves thinks it, this isn't some horrid show where they tell you you look terrible and must buy new clothes NOW), and shows them how they can work out what suits them in a really visual way (they have photos taken in lots of different clothes, and then look at the photos - so you really see how things actually do look on different shapes and sizes) and then gives them a 24-piece wardrobe which will see them through practically any occasion.
I think it's amazing. It also makes me think about my clothing and how it works together - I think I've got a pretty coherent look going on, with teal / purple / dark pink / white / grey / denim, basically, and it's meant I can have lots fewer clothes which is nice as it's easier in terms of storage!

6) Having a place for everything, and most things in their places in my room. This is lovely. It makes it super-quick to tidy up, because I know where everything goes, which makes me a happy bunny.

7) Praying for assorted friends and people I know who are not doing so well at the moment ... sending them lots of love.

8) Receiving exciting package from my sister - thank you! Yay for exciting food packages :)

Pictures - finally

A couple of pictures of some of the cushion covers I've made:

No good pictures of the patchwork ones unfortunately. Once I manage to take some I will try to put them up.
